Do you have a ton of acrylic paint around the house? It’s easy to accumulate excess art supplies when you buy something for a specific project, never to be used again, but why let it go to waste? There are plenty of fun arts and crafts ideas that you can do alone or with children that involve acrylic paint! Why not give one a try?
Keep reading to learn some of our favorite fun and easy crafts that anyone can do with acrylic paint and a few extra craft supplies.
- Prints and Stamps
For this project, you’re going to need:
- An acrylic paint kit
- Easy-to-hold base objects (styrofoam, corks, woodblocks)
- Scissors
- Craft foam sheets and shapes
- A surface for your paint
There’s an easy way and a hard way to do this. We suggest using a combination of methods.
First, help your child make shapes for your stamps. The shapes should be small enough that they can fit on the end of whatever your base object is. You can buy pre-shaped foam stickers or you can cut out shapes that your child draws on foam sheets.
Use hot-glue to attach the shapes to the base objects.
Set out different paint colors in cups. You may want to water down the paint to make it easier for children to use it. Have the child dip their new “stamp” into the paint and press it onto the painting surface.
This is a great way for your child to decorate wooden boxes, small furniture pieces, and more!
- Marble Paintings
Did you ever make marble paintings as a kid? This is an easy craft that children love.
You need:
- Paint
- Marbles
- Paper or a canvas
- A medium-sized cardboard box lid (or shallow box)
- Spoons
Set out the paint colors so they’re easy for your child to use. Again, it would be helpful to thin out the paint before you get started. Also, place the paper or canvas in the box lid or box.
Use as many spoons as you have paint colors so colors don’t mix. Dip a marble into the paint with the spoon. Repeat this with any color that you want to use (you can do several at the same time or go one at a time).
When the marbles are coated with paint, put them on top of the paper or canvas. Shake the box around so the marbles create designs on the paper!
- Painting Rocks
This is a simple activity that anyone can do.
You’ll need:
- Acrylic paint
- Small Paintbrushes
- Palm-sized stones
This is a great opportunity to take the kids out on a nature walk. Ask them to look for palm-sized stones (roughly). Have each child grab a single stone that they like.
Bring the stones home and set out paint and brushes. Paint any designs on the stones that you wish.
If you want to make this even more fun, consider setting the stones out around town for people to find as part of a nationwide scavenger hunt.
